Guatemala economy shows good performance: IMF

Guatemala's economy shows a solid expansion and good performance this year, but the government should increase its social spending and strengthen regulations in its financial system, the International Monetary Fund said.

The country's economy had a quick recovery from the 2008 global economic crisis due to strong internal demand, policies and a rise in export prices, the Fund added.

But Guatemala is still exposed to global uncertainty, mainly due to volatility in the world's financial markets that could affect its own economy, the Fund said.
