Guatemala has no sign of easing the throttle on the arrival of remittances. In January, the country netted $688 million in remittances, an 8.4 percent year-on-year increase.
Last year Guatemala set a record of &9.3 billion in remittances. This year the central bank is forecasting a total of $10 billion in order to smash that figure.
According to the International Organization for Migration, remittances amount to 10 percent of the GDP of Guatemala.
