Guatemala is first in remittances

Central America’s leader in remittances last year was Guatemala, with $ 6.1 billion, according to Western Union (Spanish only).
Honduras placed second with $3.8 billion, but at 11% had the largest growth.
Costa Rica, which depends little on remittances, received $507 million, almost the same as last year.
Overall, remittances to the isthmus increased by 7% to $15.8 billion (data is based on information from the region's central banks and from Western Union’s own transactions; Panama is not included).
