Guatemala lowers estimates for coffee loss
Friday, July 26, 2013
Guatemalan coffee growers reviewed their loss estimates for the coffee rust plague for the 2013-2014 harvest.
Initially, the sector predicted losses of up to 40 percent, but has now lowered that figure to 15 percent, said the country's Minister for Agriculture, Elmer López.
The country's national coffee association, Anacafé, added that of Guatemala's 276,000 hectares used in coffee farming, some 20,000 have been renewed.
