Guatemala picks Cafta’s four leading winners

Four years after Central America’s Cafta trade accord was implemented with the United States, Guatemala’s Economy Ministry and the US Agency for International Development presented a study on four outstanding cases of success.
Cooperativa Agrícola Integral Unión de 4 Pinos, a farming co-up has become the world’s leading producer of snow peas. Denimatrix, a unit of the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association de Texas reports $80 million a year.
Conservas y Congelados Yaestá produces conserves that cater for the nostalgic market of Central American emigrants in the US, and Agropecuaria Popoyan has adapted foreign technologies for use in plant nurseries.
