Guatemala plants more sugarcane for the upcoming harvest. World prices of the crop have risen for three successive years

Monday, September 19, 2011

Guatemala has increased planting of sugarcane by 15,000 hectares, the producers’ association, Asazgua reports. Land has been taken away from cattle-rearing.

One of the main reasons for the growth is the increase in world prices. This year is the third in succession in which demand has failed to meet supply.

Part of the reason has been the growth in demand for China.
