Guatemala’s Colom hails ‘historic compensation’ of $220 million to poor

The president of Guatemala, Alvaro Colom. said the government has invested some $220 million in the last three years to reduce the poverty that affects more than half of the 13.3 million population.

“This is historic compensation”, Colom said in reference to aid for almost 600,000 families.

The investment is being channeled by the Mi Familia Progresa program, one of the social initiatives of Colom’s presidential office.
