Guatemala's new leader pledges to attract more foreign investment to create jobs

The new government led by Otto Pérez is betting on making Guatemala more competitive in order to attract more foreign investment that can generate more jobs and reduce poverty.

Pérez gave an assurance that he will provide the facilities and confidence that foreign investors require.

Between 2005 and 2010 the total of foreign direct investment in Guatemala came to $3.68 billion. The central bank reckons that the figure for last year will be $789 million.
