Guatemala seeks new credit from International Fund
Tuesday, May 31, 2011
A technical mission from the International Monetary Fund will arrive in Guatemala this week to review the government’s finances and debt. The review is expected to launch negotiations on a precautionary liquidity provision to replace Guatemala’s existing standby arrangement.
The liquidity provision provides access to more credit, nor does it require the regular reviews of a standby. However, the new Guatemalan government will have to conclude the negotiations on any new agreement.
