Guatemala seeks new model for free zones

Guatemala hopes that the upcoming Latin American Free Zones conference will provide information from other countries on how to meet the deadline set by the World Trade Organization to impose restrictions on free zones.

At present, Guatemala has 17 free zones with a total of 251 companies.

According to the Guatemalan exporters’ association, free zones accounted for $2.9 billion in exports last year.
