Guatemala takes number five in the coffee Big Leagues

Friday, July 23, 2010

Guatemala has now become the world’s fifth leading coffee exporter, thanks to a strategy announced in 2000 that included regionalization and competitiveness, created by the national coffee association Anacafé.

The only producers that are larger than Guatemala are Brazil, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia.

Of the total of Guatemala’s coffee exports, some 48 percent is sold to the United States. The Japanese market is second, at 16 percent.
