Guatemala technology lag means less jobs

Lack of technology is one of Guatemala's main obstacles in creating new jobs, according to World Bank economist Marco Hernández, author of the institution's latest report on the Central American nation.

"We found that companies that use new technologies in their processes are not only more productive, but also create more jobs," Hernández said.

In 2010, companies in Guatemala created an average of 0.3 new jobs, compared with the Latin American average of five.
