Guatemalan banks ordered to restrict sales of dollars to $3,000 a month

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

A limit on $3,000 in foreign-currency transaction is to be imposed in Guatemala on January 1.

Banks have asked customers to sign a legally-binding accord that they will not use dollars for illicit purposes.

Exceptions to the restriction include diplomatic representations and senior officials with international organizations that are accredited in the country.
