Guatemalan cardamom producers voice fears over United Nations vote on Palestinian state. Market in Arab countries

Monday, September 5, 2011

Guatemala’s stance on the recognition by the United Nations the Palestinian state has led to concern from producers and exporters.

They fear that, if Guatemala votes against the Palestinians, sales will be affected in the Middle East. Cardamom generated $338 million in exports for Guatemala this year.

The producers say that a negative vote will not only have an impact on trade but also on whole regions of Guatemala that depend on the cardamom crop.
