Guatemalan migrants’ remittances topped $7 billion last year

Guatemala received $7.16 billion in remittances from its emigrants last year, a 14 percent increase on 2015, the nation’s central bank, Banguat, reported.

The amount amounted to 11 percent of the economy, and 50 percent was spent on household goods and services, boosting poor regions in the center and west of the country.
