Guatemalan minister urges confirmation of Perenco’s oil concession renewal

The Guatemalan government should authorize an extension of Perenco’s concession on the Xan oilfield which is due to expire next month, says the minister of mines, Romeo Rodríguez.
If the operation is to continue, President Álvaro Colom will have to authorize the extension within three weeks.
The issue is no longer out of the ministry’s hands, Rodríguez said, and time is running out.
