Guatemalans file lawsuit against Tahoe Resources

Friday, June 20, 2014

A group of seven Guatemalans filed a lawsuit against Canadian mining firm Tahoe Resources for the attack against a group of people in April 2013.

Alberto Rotondo, head of security at Tahoe's Escobal mine at the time, is being accused of ordering the assassination of seven community leaders who led a protest against the mine.

The lawsuit was filed in Vancouver, where Tahoe is headquartered, said Jen Moore, coordinator of the MiningWatch in Latin America, a program that monitors Canadian miners' activity in the region.
