Honduras aims for bumper sugar harvest spurred by strong prices

Friday, June 18, 2010

Honduras is expecting a bigger sugar harvest this season as farmers increase planted areas spurred by strong prices, the country's producers groupsaid.

The small country will produce 431,000 tonnes of sugar in the upcoming harvest, which begins in November, 6.4 percent more than in the current cycle which is coming to a close this month.

Honduras says it can keep up higher levels of production in coming years as farm practices improve.
