Honduras aims to export 7.5 million boxes of bananas to US and Europe in 2011

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Arturo Castillo, president of the banana producers’ association, confirmed that Honduras could reach exports of 7.5 million boxes of banana this year, barring natural disasters. The majority of producers began to renew their farms, which only can mean more production, he said.

Moreover, the producers are negotiating with the two transnational companies – Tela Railroad Company and Standard Fruit Company – to get a raise of 60 cents in the box price to $5.85.
