Honduras aims to receive 350 new free-zone textile plants in north of the country

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Honduras has approved setting up new free-zone textile units to create thousands of employment opportunities in the north of the country.

The plants can import and assemble duty-free components for export. Plant owners take advantage of low-cost labour and pay duty only on the value added.

Honduras is expecting to receive at least 350 new textile and plastic manufacturing plants under the arrangement. There are 1.8 million unemployed people in Honduras, according to official figures.
