Honduras and Ecuador restore ties

Friday, March 14, 2014

Ecuador and Honduras announced the full normalization of diplomatic relations, after years of estrangement following the 2009 coup that ousted leftist Honduran president Manuel Zelaya.

Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa and his Honduran counterpart Juan Orlando Hernández appointed new ambassadors and announced plans to kick-start bilateral trade nearly a year after a process was initiated to end the diplomatic crisis.

"We have representatives at the ambassadorial level in both countries, which undoubtedly will dramatically strengthen the bonds of the Latin American brothers," Hernandez said.
