Honduras assembly plants recover lost ground in jobs

The Honduran garment and manufacturing industry has managed to generate some 20,000 jobs over the last two years, according to José Adonis Lavaire, head of the country's Commerce and Industry Ministry.

The new jobs are a result of an average of 14 new companies opening per year since 2010.

Exports to the United States account for $1.4 billion of the $1.6 billion total exports in the sector. Honduras is the fourth country in the world in terms of garment exports to the United States, after China, Taiwan and Bangladesh.
