Honduras Cortes port shows sluggish growth

Monday, November 17, 2014

Honduras's Cortés port handled 3 percent more containers from January to August this year, compared with the same period in 2013.

The ports exports in the period reached 1.3 million metric tons, a 1 percent increase compared with the January-August period last year.

One of the main reasons for the slow performances is a lack of maintenance at the terminal, which harms its competitiveness with similar ports in the region, such as Costa Rica's Limón and Guatemala's Santo Tomás de Castilla, the Honduran port authority said.
