Honduras mulls return to Chávez-led Petrocaribe

Monday, December 5, 2011

Honduras is considering a return to Venezuela’s Petrocaribe scheme after talks were held between the president, Porfirio Lobo, and his counterpart, Hugo Chñavez.

Petrocaribe members pay 50 percent of their oil bill over 25 years and the rest on favorable terms for the debtors.

Honduras in January 2008 became the 18th member of Petrocaribe, though its membership was suspended two years ago following the coup that deposed Manuel Zelaya. Honduras faces a $2 billion bill for fuel imports this year.
