Honduras public debt seen at $8.9 billion

Honduras's public debt could reach 50 percent of the country's gross domestic product by the end of the year, according to forecasts by the Central American center for fiscal studies, Icefi.
The figure represents a debt of some $8.95 billion.
That level of debt generates large amounts of interest, which in turn limits the country's capacity for public spending, said Hugo Noé Pino, economist at Icefi.
