Economists say Honduras is on the brink of economic collapse.
Gang-related violence is also making it one of the most dangerous places in the world. The authorities are under increasing pressure to give residents a sense of security.
Desperate for funds, the government has now passed a controversial law allowing the privatisation of land - leading to protests from people indigenous to the area.
