Honduras seeks eco-tourism certificate for Roatán

Honduras is seeking to make the island of Roatán a sustainable tourism destination, the country's authorities said.

But authorities must first earn a certification for the island given by Sustainable Traveler International.

In order to achieve certified status, the organization evaluates four key aspects, which include management of the destination, participation and benefits for the community, administration of natural and cultural assets, as well as environmental conservation.
