Hotels in Guatemala seek green energy

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

Small hotels in Guatemala are seeking ways of cutting their electricity bills through the use of green energy, according to the country's association for small hotels.

One of the highest costs for small hotels in the country is electricity, and it can account for up to 40 percent of a hotel's bills if it offers services such as air-conditioning and hot water, said the association's president, Ana Mercedes de Lemke.

But those small hotels can combine thermal and photovoltaic solar energy to supply their electricity, said Luis Cordón, executive of energy firm Enertiva.
