Hydro production drop in Panama

Friday, January 29, 2016

A lack of rain due to the El Niño phenomenon has meant a decrease in hydroelectric production in Panama.

During the rainy season, hydro plants provide up to 65 percent of the country's energy, which is 1,600 megawatts at peak demand. The decline in hydro power is being partially offset by power from the wind farm in Penonomé.
