IDB boosts electricity in Guatemala

The Inter-American Development Bank has authorized a loan for $55 million to Guatemala to help the country in its goal to take electricity to 98 percent of its rural territory, Guatemalan President Otto Pérez said.

The loan is still subject to approval by the county's Congress, Pérez added.

When the current administration took office the country's electricity network covered 80 percent of rural areas, but now that figure is 90 percent, said Energy Minister Erick Archila.
