Industrial nations must pay for storms destruction

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Central America asked the industrialized nations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions because the region no longer is prepared to “bear the brunt of the deaths and destruction caused by climate change”.

The recent rainstorms in the region “have damaged our infrastructure, ravaged our crops, while other countries, mainly the industrialized ones, have been responsible for impact of climate change on our region,” said Mauricio Funes, president of El Salvador.

Funes was speaking at the closure of an extraordinary Central American summit to review the damage and plan for an international forum to be held in San Salvador in December.
