Thursday, September 8, 2011

The Inter-American Development Bank approved a loan for $100 million to help reform El Salvador's electric power sector and diversify the country's energy matrix to produce energy savings.

The program includes strengthening the sector's institutional framework, increasing the use of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector participation and regional electricity integration in accordance with the country's National Energy Policy.

Policy measures supported by the loan are expected to decrease the use of diesel fuel in the matrix from 45 percent to 27 percent starting in 2016.
