Internal disputes among union pose challenge to privatization of Costa Rica ports

The large number of workers on sick notes might well prove a barrier to plans for modernization of Costa Rica’s Caribbean ports of Limón and Moín.
The reason is that casual workers who stand in for those on leave of absence are to be given a vote by the union.
A large percentage of the casual workers believe that privatization of the ports would mean the loss of their jobs.
