International coffee chief calls for aid to Central America

The executive director of the International Coffee Organization, Roberio Silva, called on international solidarity to confront the problems caused by coffee rust in Central American plantations.

"The problem is particularly serious viewed from a social viewpoint," Silva said during the launch of International Coffee Week.

Brazil and Colombia have research institutes that could help Central America, he added.
