Killing of Honduran activist threatens $750 million aid
Tuesday, April 26, 2016
The killing of acclaimed activist Bertha Caceres and allegations that Honduran authorities have bungled the investigation have created a dilemma for the Obama administration. The White House supports Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez — even as some U.S. officials suspect state or state-supported assassins killed Caceres.
As part of the political fallout, a $750-million package of U.S. aid designated for Central America’s Northern Triangle — the largest such aid plan for the region in more than a decade — may also be in jeopardy.
