Law on waste gasification challenged by lobbyists
Representatives of environmental groups asked President Luis Guillermo Solís of Costa Rica to maintain a moratorium on waste gasification and to refrain from signing into law a new regulation that would allow the controversial waste treatment in Costa Rica.
Supporters of gasification say the process emits fewer toxins and is potentially more efficient than traditional incineration. Opponents say it’s just as damaging to public health.
