Luis Guillermo Solis: Costa Rica's president-elect

Luis Guillermo Solís, candidate for Costa Rica's left-leaning Partido Acción Ciudadana, PAC, won the country's run-off presidential elections on Sunday, Costa Rican daily La República reported.

With 94 percent of the votes counted, Solís won with 78 percent over his opponent Johnny Araya, who took 22 percent of the vote.

Araya, of the current party in power PLN, stepped down from his campaign earlier this year, citing odds against his victory were too high and a shortage of funds.
