The Managua city government has approved a proposal by W2E Eco Energy Investment Nicaragua to build a waste-to-energy plant at the La Chureca landfill, on the shores of Lake Xolotlan, that will turn plastic bags into synthetic fuel.
The city council granted a 30-year operating permit to the company, which plans to invest $17 million in the plant.
