Martinelli aims to give way in face of deadly protests
Protests in the Panamanian province of Colon resulted in two more deaths yesterday.
Authorities say a 29 year-old woman and an indigenous man were killed by stray bullets in the crossfire. Protesters asked the government to scrap a law that would allow the sale of land in the Colon Free Trade Zone.
"The land will not be sold if the people don't want it. Instead, we will increase rents for companies in the free trade zone and 100 percent of that money will be for the benefit of Colon", said President Ricardo Martinelli.
