Martinelli raises Panama's debt by $3 billion

The administration of Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli has resorted like no other to increase the debt and has used more resources than any of his predecessors to cover government spending.

On June 30, 2009, a day before Martinelli took office, Panama had debts of $10.8 billion.

After three years in the presidential chair, the President has raised the debt by $3.1 billion.
