McDonald's invests in Guatemala's blighted coffee

McDonald’s Corp., has announced it will invest some $6.5 billion in Guatemalan coffee.

The money will be used to give technical support and certify about 13,000 coffee growers, to help them sustainably produce high quality grains.

The investment comes at a time of coffee crisis in the region, after being hit by a severe coffee rust fungus plague which threatens to greatly reduce the region’s output.
