Medical tourism is growing by 20 percent a year on average in Costa Rica

Medical tourism is gaining ground in Costa Rica. Some 5,000 more medical tourists were treated last year than there were in 2008.
 
One of the companies that has welcomed the trend is Dental Cosmetics Costa Rica. For the last two years, about 80 percent of its patients are foreigners.
 
Medical tourism is a very good business for Costa Rica. Most vacationers spend on average $1,600 for a visit in Costa Rica. The average for medical tourists, however is $6,500 to $7,000 each.
