Melon harvest underway in southern Honduras in drive for $40 million exports

The fruit from the first cycle of the melon harvest of the 2010-2011 season in Honduras will be released in December.

The constant rains that hit the country since early May delayed the beginning of the first cycle of the new crop of melons, which started a week ago.

European Union countries and the United States appear as the main destinations for the Honduran melon. Forecasts findicate that the export value will exceed $40 million.
