Metals boom lifts hopes of big investments in Honduras

The mining industry in Honduras generates $180 million a year in exports and $11 million in taxes.

But the mining companies complain about the regulatory system and the opposition they face from environmentalists.

The surge in international prices of gold and other metals has, however, attracted the attention of foreign mining investors to Honduras. The target now is to attract some 10 companies with an investment each of some $300 million.
