Mexico and Central America ratify trade accord

The free trade agreement between Mexico and Central America came into effect yesterday in Costa Rica.

The agreement brings together two separate accords Mexico had with Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and another with Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.

Trade between Mexico and Central America has grown five-fold over the last decade, reaching $8.15 billion in 2011, according to Mexico's Ministry of Economy.
