Mexico's March auto output rises by 9 percent to record

Mexican auto producers turned out 9 percent more vehicles in March than in the same month of 2011, while exports rose 23 percent on the year to a record, car makers association AMIA said.

Auto makers assembled 268,625 vehicles last month -- a record for the month -- bringing first-quarter output to 713,643 units, also a record for the period and an 11 percent increase over the first three months of 2011.

Vehicle exports surged to 236,599 units, also a record, bringing first-quarter exports 15 percent higher at 589,581.
