Representatives of Guatemala’s textile and garment industries approved a 5 percent minimum wage increase for next year.
The proposal has to be ratified by the national wages commission. It raises the minimum wage from a current $7.58 per day to $7.96.
Industry leaders said they will study the commission’s proposal but President Alvaro Colom will have the last word on the issue.
