Mining companies and government agree to increase of mining royalties in Guatemala

On Thursday, the Guatemalan mining industry's representatives and the government will annoiunce an agreement to raise royalties to by between 3 and 5 percent.

At present, minign royalties amount to only 1 percent.

Guatemala has granted 27 licenses for the mining of metals, but only two mines are currently operating. They are the Marlin mine in San Marcos and El Sastre in Progreso.
