More remittances but more jobless in El Salvador
El Salvador received $407 million in remittances in January, a 5.7 percent increase over the same month of last year.
For the whole of last year, El Salvador received $5.5 billion in remittances, a 8.4 percent increase.
However, as remittances increase, so do jobs in El Salvador. Brooklyn Manufactura, a garment factory, just announced its closure with the loss of 1,250 jobs.
