Most Costa Rica’s English teachers are finally getting a hang of the language

Two years after a Costa Rican education ministry study revealed embarrassing levels of English proficiency among its 950 English teachers, almost all now speak at an intermediate level or higher, thanks to a ministry program.

Some 95 percent of the teachers now speak at an intermediate level or higher.

Only 34 percent of them barely made it past a beginner level, with classes often taught in by teachers not up to par.
